CO2 storage

To counter todays problem with the enormous amount for CO2 emissions globally, a new idea has emerged to the light.
To stop the emissions from getting any larger and maybe even reduce it we find a way to catch the CO2 that is created during different combustions for example from furnaces in industries and then to store that CO2 deep in the ground.
This sounds like a great relief for this troubled global community, a gift from above. We can actually manage to reduce our input of carbondioxide into the air and stop the global warming that is threatening our world as we know it. Although the effects would not be noticed immediate since it will take time before the atmosphere has stabilized and the CO2 concentration is back to what it was before.
The problem is that with this idea, we might just be sweeping the problem under the carpet. We might believe that since the danger has passed we can continue to burn our fossilfuel and coal for energy, that we do not have to bother with finding new renewable energy. This also means we have to use a lot of money to capture the CO2 and then store it, and after storage, monitor the storage so it will not leak any CO2.
The money will probably be taken from the renewable energy research thus it will take longer for us to reach that point where we will have negligible CO2 emissions.
This idea holds very high interest for companies such as SHELL, Statoil, BP and others. They will probably even encourage consumers to drive more since "your carbon footprint is now zero".
And another problem is that its not only CO2 that is the villain in the global warming drama. Other gases like methane and halocarbons needs to be reduced dramatically.
But I have to agree this sounds like wonderful relief, although we need to be careful to not be reckless and think the problem is solved, it would only have been delayed.
But maybe that is what we need. Some time to solve all of the problems we are facing right now. We just have to make sure that we do something of worth during that time we are given.

Crowded

The earths human population is increasing rapidly and already the restrain is showing by famines and other problems with supporting such a huge population.
China has done something that the rest of the earths population needs to do in order to balance the equation. They have a law that prevents people from having more than one kid.
Its not enough to stop producing so much CO2. You need to do so much more. And its not going to help if we get more mouths to feed.
Each year we are taking of the capital instead of the interest from nature. This means less capital and less interest next year aswell.
All of this can be easier to fix if we take control of the growing population. This will take some time but it will be ALOT less painful than billions of people starving. This compared to only being allowed to one kid.
This earth can only sustain a certain amount of beings. But of course, if you dont want any space left for animals like tigers, bison, zebras, bears etc then we can continue to grow in population a little bit more.
People havent really realised that if you want this planet to survive us and we to survive ourselves we have to actually sacrifice something. And the term sacrifice is that you loose something that means something, else its not a sacrifice.
But this is not the solution for mans coming downfall. At least not the whole solution. You need to do so much more, but at least its a start. And with less population, the richer their lives can be since theyre not that many for the earth to sustain.
What do you prefer? that your children will be fighting with others for food or that your one child will have a rich life full of posibilities?

Global Dimming

So, a new problem has emerged for us humans.
Global warming. The thought is often dismissed cause its not so bad after all. I mean, people dont see the real effect of it as any major issue since its not affecting them directly. They only hear about the ice melting and its getting a bit warmer and perhaps a bit more extreme weather but overall they dont think that 0,6 degrees celcius higher temperature in 100 years is that high and that we have plenty of time to fix it.
The problem is that we have begun to realise that the global warming is being somewhat neutralized by something called Global Dimming. This means that we are stirring up alot of small particles that usually isnt in the air. These particles get small droplets of water on them and they create clouds. These clouds, unlike normal clouds, have smaller particles and thus they stay in the air longer than usual. They reflect the sunrays before it hits the earth. Overall, the insolation to the planet has diminished with 10%.
Water evaporates with the help of sunrays and heat. Mostly sunrays. This is thought to be the reason for the masstarvation in Ethiopia during the 80s when the rainclouds did not occur.
This global dimming is caused by unclean combustion, and with the starting of 90s with the era of catalysts on cars our air became a bit more cleaner, thus letting in more sun to hit the earths surface. This resulted in a rapid increase of temperature.
So we realise now that our global warming could have been much more worse than it is if we havent stirred so much particles up in the atmosphere. This is a new problem, since unclean air is dangerous to our health and without it we will experience a much more rapid global warming, we are facing a dilemma. The particles are protecting us against a serious problem to our existance and at the same time its changing the weather, creating famines in Ethiopia and more.
The problem is technically fairly easy to fix. The bigger problem is that people dont want to change. They dont want to give up their LED-tv, their x-box, their car, vacations to other warmer latitudes, their shopping, eating meat etc. Do you want to give all that up?

Learn 2 think

Its some thoughts from my head about the inviroment and society we live in.
Todays subject is about the ozonelayer:
We have reached our peak right now with ODS substances in the stratosphere. These ODS substances comes from emissions we did in the 80s and early 90s. It takes a while before it reaches our stratosphere to do some real damage against our ozonlayer.
This doesnt seem to bother anyone cause everyone is sunbathing as ever before and more and more reports of increasing cases with skincancer is making it obvious to us that this isnt really good behaviour.
The worst part is that the ODS substances is going to take a while before it actually disappears from the stratosphere and stops the degradation of our ozonlayer. It has been calculated that our ozonlayer wont be back in the normal "thickness" as it was in the 70s until year 2100.
This means its not just a temporarily setback for the sunlovers. Its several generations that have to be careful of exposing themselves to too much sunlight.
In my opinion, since nobody is actually taking any heed to the medias warnings there ought to be a mandatory education about the actual danger with todays radiation from the sun to highten the awareness of those generations that have to live through this time of thin ozonlayer.
This will probably not only save lives, it will save money due to medical care cost is reduced.
